«Wednesday». Season two — the long-awaited return to Nevermore

Today, the second season of one of the most anticipated series of 2025 from Netflix — «Wednesday» — has been released. Jenna Ortega returns as the daughter of the Addams family and continues to uncover the mysteries of the mystical Nevermore Academy. The first four episodes are already available to watch, and the rest will be released on September 3.
We’ll tell you why this series is definitely not to be missed.
Why should you watch «Wednesday»?
After the release of the first season in November 2022, this series became a true phenomenon, and the actors in the leading roles gained cult status. In its first week, the series racked up over 341.2 million hours of viewing, surpassing even the fourth season of «Stranger Things».
Director Tim Burton — a genius of gothic cinema
The creator and producer of «Wednesday», Tim Burton, is a cult figure in the world of cinema whose name is immediately associated with dark aesthetics, black humor, and a distinctive visual style. He set the tone for the first four episodes of the first season and now returns to the director’s chair in the second season.
You’ve definitely seen at least one of his films:
«Beetlejuice» (1988)
«Batman» (1989) and «Batman Returns» (1992)
«The Nightmare Before Christmas» (1993)
«Sleepy Hollow» (1999)
«Corpse Bride» (2005)
«Edward Scissorhands» (1990)
«Alice in Wonderland» (2010)
Burton’s collaboration with Netflix allowed «Wednesday» to become not just a teen series but a truly unforgettable project that essentially revived the Addams family universe.
What is the series about?
The main character is the only daughter of Gomez and Morticia Addams, who enrolls at the mystical Nevermore Academy. The walls of this school hold many secrets. In the first season, Wednesday tries to deal with her psychic abilities while simultaneously solving a string of mysterious crimes.
The second season is expected to move away from romantic subplots and instead focus on a darker, scarier atmosphere, mysticism, and the relationships between the members of the Addams family.
Jenna Ortega — one of the leading stars of the new generation
Jenna Ortega, who plays the main role in the series, instantly became one of the most popular actresses of today. For this role, she was nominated for a Golden Globe and an Emmy (the second youngest nominee in history), made the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, and received a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Notably, the famous dance from episode four of the first season, set to Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps, was choreographed by Ortega herself. She drew inspiration from rock singer Siouxsie Sioux, the choreography of Bob Fosse, and archival footage of goths dancing in the 1980s.
The dance later went viral on TikTok: users started making clips to Lady Gaga’s Bloody Mary. The challenge was joined by Gaga herself, Kim Kardashian, Marina Diamandis, and other celebrities.
Before the premiere of the second season, Jenna appeared on Good Morning America in a stylish look, further fueling the excitement around the new season.
