The Best Roles of Ryan Reynolds and Emilia Clarke

news

Today, October 23, two famous actors are celebrating their birthdays: Ryan Reynolds turns 50, while Emilia Clarke turns 40!

You probably know Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones. But both actors have plenty of other interesting projects to their names.

Pick a movie for tonight, order your favorite Ninja Pizza, and enjoy a cozy movie night!

Free Guy

A film directed by Shawn Levy, who also directed another movie starring Ryan Reynolds in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine.

Imagine you're just an ordinary Guy. You live an ordinary life in the City, have a wonderful job at a bank, and spend your free time with a security guard named Buddy.

Sounds pretty good, but there's one catch: you're nothing more than a non-playable character (NPC) in a multiplayer online role-playing game. Is it possible to break free from this reality, or has everything already been decided? That's the question Ryan Reynolds sets out to answer.

Chris Evans made a cameo appearance in the film. His only condition was that filming his scene wouldn't take more than 10 minutes.

Deadpool

This superhero movie needs no introduction and practically relaunched the actor's career. For many people, Deadpool is the character most closely associated with Ryan Reynolds, and for good reason.

With a budget of $ 58 000 000, the film grossed over $ 780 000 000 worldwide. At the center of the story is Wade Wilson, a mercenary with enormous charisma and an exceptional sense of humor. Desperate to cure his illness, he undergoes an illegal procedure that grants him incredible regenerative abilities but leaves his appearance altered beyond recognition. He then sets out to find the person responsible for his suffering and settle the score.

Ryan Reynolds was a huge fan of the comic book character. He admitted that he had always wanted to play Deadpool on the big screen and even took an active part in writing the film's screenplay.

Interestingly, Ryan and Wade have quite a lot in common: both are Canadian, stand 188 cm tall, and share the same hair and eye color. Reynolds began his acting career in 1991, the very same year Deadpool made his comic book debut. Coincidence? We think not!

Following the success of the original Deadpool, Ryan returned to the role several more times, appearing in Deadpool 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.

National Lampoon's Van Wilder

A lighthearted college comedy about carefree student life, released in 2002. The main character has been attending college for nearly seven years and has absolutely no intention of leaving. However, an unexpected encounter threatens to turn all his plans upside down.

Fun fact: Ryan Reynolds also appears in the music video for Bouncing Off the Walls by the American band Sugarcult. The video combines scenes from the movie with additional footage shot on set.

Game of Thrones

The iconic HBO fantasy series based on George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire novels aired from 2011 to 2019. It was the role of Daenerys Targaryen that brought Emilia Clarke worldwide fame and made her one of the most recognizable actresses on modern television.

At the beginning of the story, Daenerys is a young heir to the fallen Targaryen dynasty, forced to live in exile alongside her brother. Over the course of eight seasons, however, she undergoes an extraordinary transformation: from a timid young girl into a powerful ruler, the Mother of Dragons, who raises armies, liberates cities, and seeks to reclaim the Iron Throne.

Working on the series took up nearly ten years of the actress's life and earned her four nominations for the prestigious Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 2019.

During her final audition, Emilia was so nervous that, after performing her prepared scenes, she offered to show the producers something else. One of the show's creators, David Benioff, jokingly asked her to dance. Taking the suggestion seriously, the actress performed two funny dances: the Funky Chicken and the Robot. Shortly afterward, she learned that she had landed the role.

Terminator Genisys

The fifth installment in the famous science fiction franchise was released in 2015. This time, the filmmakers decided to reimagine the events of the original 1984 Terminator, with Emilia Clarke taking on the role of Sarah Connor, previously portrayed by Linda Hamilton in the first two films.

In the story, Kyle Reese travels back from the future to 1984 to protect Sarah Connor from a deadly cyborg. However, the familiar story takes an unexpected turn: Sarah already knows about the coming war between humans and machines, is highly skilled with weapons, and is fully prepared to fight the Terminators herself. What's more, she has been protected since childhood by a reprogrammed T-800 played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Emilia had to embrace an entirely new kind of character. Gone were Daenerys's long blonde hair and luxurious outfits, replaced by a short haircut, military gear, weapons, and numerous action scenes.

Clarke wasn't the first Game of Thrones actress to play Sarah Connor. The role had previously been portrayed by Lena Headey, best known to viewers as Cersei Lannister, in the television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. According to Emilia, she and her fellow actress joked about the coincidence, while the Game of Thrones creators even suggested arranging a fight between their characters to determine which Sarah Connor was stronger.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

A science fiction adventure film directed by Ron Howard, released in 2018. The story explores the early years of one of the most famous characters in the Star Wars universe, Han Solo, this time portrayed by Alden Ehrenreich.

Viewers follow the future smuggler as he attempts to escape his home planet of Corellia, meets Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian, gets caught up in dangerous criminal adventures, and gradually becomes the charismatic rogue that fans know from the original trilogy.

Emilia Clarke plays Qi'ra, Han's childhood friend and first love. The two once dreamed of escaping Corellia together and starting a new life, but circumstances tore them apart. Several years later, they reunite, only to discover that Qi'ra is now connected to the powerful criminal syndicate Crimson Dawn. She must choose between her own future and her feelings for someone from her past.
