Geeked Week 2024: All the Latest News from Netflix

news

Recently, Netflix held the Geeked Week 2024 event in Atlanta, where the company announced new movies, series, and even games that will soon be available to the general public.

We’ve gathered the most exciting announcements exclusively for the #ninjafam: details on the second season of «Arcane», the release date for the sequel to «Squid Game», the anime set in the Devil May Cry universe, and much more.

«Arcane». Season Two.

The story of two sisters, Vi and Jinx — characters from the popular computer game League of Legends — who found themselves on opposite sides of a conflict, will soon return to the screens.

The first season was praised for its original plot, stunning animation, charismatic characters, and vibrant, stylish soundtrack (Everybody wants to be my enemy). The animated series was nominated for nine Annie Awards and won a Creative Arts Award.

The new season will be split into three thematic acts: the first will premiere on November 9, the second on November 16, and the third on November 23.

«Squid Game». Season Two.

The first season of this survival thriller by South Korean director Hwang Dong-hyuk was released in 2021, creating a massive cultural impact, spawning countless memes, parodies, and significantly increasing interest in stories of this kind.

In the first season of «Squid Game», 456 people, each struggling with severe financial issues, competed for a grand prize of over $38,000,000. They participated in a deadly high-stakes tournament, completing various challenges.

What will the sequel bring? We’ll find out on December 26.

Devil May Cry

Netflix has been steadily releasing anime adaptations of popular games, such as DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, Castlevania, Dragon’s Dogma, and Arcane.

It’s no surprise that the company has now taken on the Devil May Cry universe, where the charismatic hero Dante battles hordes of demons and other hellish creatures.

Expect crazy action, spectacular motorcycle chases, and adrenaline-fueled shootouts — all coming to your screens in April next year.

«Wednesday». Season Two

Netflix continues to fuel excitement for the second season of the hit show «Wednesday», starring Jenna Ortega, which was announced back in 2023 after the success of the first season.

Get ready to return to the mysterious halls of Nevermore Academy, filled with secrets, intrigue, and quirky teenagers struggling to control their powers.

«Avatar: The Last Airbender». Season Two

The series about the adventures of Aang, a young airbender, will continue! Along with his friends, he embarks on a journey to the Fire Nation to put an end to the hundred-year war.

You may already know this story from the popular animated series many remember from childhood.

«Stranger Things». Season Five

One of the most popular contemporary shows couldn’t skip a new season. This sci-fi drama about teenagers with supernatural abilities will return to the screens in 2025.

Instead of a traditional trailer, the creators treated fans to a behind-the-scenes tour of the set, which turned out to be quite an unusual experience.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch

A new animated series based on Ubisoft’s popular gaming universe. The story centers on Sam Fisher, a U.S. Army special agent, specializing in covert infiltrations of high-security facilities and silent elimination of global security threats.

There’s no release date yet, so keep an eye out for further announcements.

Cyberpunk

In September 2022, riding the popularity of the video game of the same name, Netflix and CD Projekt Red released a one-season anime titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. It had all the hallmarks of the genre: body-modifying implants, class inequality, brutality, corporate power struggles, and much more.

Though the story seemed complete, and fans didn’t expect a sequel, Netflix has different plans. The company has teased a new project, though whether it will tie into the previous season remains to be seen.

Don't Move

An upcoming feature-length horror film that follows a maniac who injects his victims with paralyzing substances. To survive, the women must run and fight before their bodies completely give out.

Starring Kelsey Asbille and Finn Wittrock, the film premieres on October 25.

The Eternaut

An Argentine series based on the comic books by Héctor Oesterheld. The story revolves around a group of survivors after a deadly snowfall triggered by an alien invasion.

Will humanity’s last hope be able to overcome the threats? We’ll find out next year.
